ROCKFISH, OR ROCKLING They’re little, elongated cod-like fish that live in shallow waters, particularly rock poois, from whence they get their name. They can be found off the European shores. The three-bearded rockling, Gaidropsarus vulgaris, is the largest of the eastern Atlantic species, reaching 20 inches in length and having two barbels at the nostrils and one under the chin (51 cm). The five-bearded rockling Ciliata mustelus has a total of five barbels, while the four-bearded rockling Rhinonemus cimbrius has an additional barbel at the top lip.
